Conference: “Cooperative Wineries: A Little-Known Cultural Heritage”
Aigne, Languedoc-Roussillon
Located in the heart of the medieval village of Aigne, in the Minervois region of the Hérault department, La Còla is housed in the former cooperative winery built between 1949 and 1951 by architect Paul Brès and expanded in 1966 by René Villeneuve. After standing vacant for more than fifteen years, the building has just been renovated by architect Yves Bour to become a space for contemporary creation, while preserving its raw aesthetic and winemaking heritage. Lionel Rodriguez, a heritage conservation officer, will give a talk on this little-known heritage site, followed by a book signing.

Come explore the estate with a map and set out on a self-guided hike at your own pace along forest trails, taking in the scenery and the estate’s iconic landmarks. You’ll end your hike at the boutique for a tasting in a relaxed and elegant atmosphere. Two experiences are available to enhance your walk: a picnic backpack for a gourmet break at La Ruine, an open-air theater in the vineyard, or a platter of charcuterie and cheese, tapenade, and wines or non-alcoholic beverages on the boutique’s terrace. Oenorando: “A Journey to the Land of a Terroir Connoisseur”

As night falls, whether as a couple or with friends, follow me on an exclusive wine-tasting hike; with all your senses awakened, you’ll explore the extraordinary landscape of the Layon vineyards. Finally, surrounded by the sounds of the night, the Chenin in your glass will reveal its secrets to you. Throughout this 4-kilometer (3-hour) twilight hike, you’ll wind your way through the hillsides, between the Chenin vineyards and the Pont Barré Nature Reserve, in close contact with the rocks that have shaped the slopes of this magnificent vineyard. During the various stops along the way, you’ll discover how this valley has enabled winemakers to produce such exceptional Chenin whites. Finally, at dusk, a sensory tasting will allow you to “experience” the terroir in a new way as you sample four magnificent Chenin wines from the vineyards surrounding you.
